Stand Up and Take Action - Global Initiative

Set off your alarm at 12 noon on Sat. 17th !

Message from Amy Merone:

“On the same day as Thriving Sustainably, we are organising an event in Oxford City Centre as part of the Stand Up and Take Action global initiative. We will be having a ‘campaign moment’ outside St Michael at the North Gate Church on Cornmarket at 12 noon – setting off alarm clocks to send a powerful reminder that time is running out for the planet if we don’t act now.

The event is also an opportunity for us to mobilise people to attend The Wave in London on 5 December, as well as to collect images for Christian Aid’s Mass Visual Trespass campaign (http://trespass.christianaid.org.uk/). There will also be face painters and musicians.
I wondered whether it might be appropriate to ask whether you could mention the ‘campaign moment’ to people who come along to your event? Anybody wishing to join us in the City Centre at 12 noon (it won’t be longer than 5 minutes itself for the moment) would be most welcome. I was really thinking in case there was a break in the programme. We are hoping to have some local media present.”

Blog - Overview

In this occasional blog I will be passing on information about the organisation of the event as well as give some background to the themes which the day is about. The event will be one (so far fairly rare) opportunity for us to tackle these issues from the ground up as a community, mainly through sharing and learning together. We will have a chance to be exposed to some of the foremost thinkers and doers in the field of climate change, peak oil and the future of our planet. Let's make good use of their contributions and offerings.
