Earth Rover 1 at Thriving Sustainably

We all know that milkmen are delivering far more than just milk nowadays - but practical advice on renewable power generation?
Well, this is certainly the case in Oxford, where a redundant electric-powered Dairy Crest milk float has been given a valuable new role as a mobile display unit demonstrating the latest energy efficiency and renewable power generation techniques and equipment. The brainchild of Oxford resident, Stephen Harrell-Bond, the aptly-titled ‘Earth Rover 1’ has a serious mission – to increase awareness of the dangers of climate change and the practical steps people can take to minimise their energy usage and impact on the environment. A wholly voluntary initiative and a regular visitor to schools and public venues throughout Oxfordshire, Earth Rover 1 is packed with examples of the latest renewable power technology including a fully-functioning FuturEnergy wind turbine, and both solar thermal and photovoltaic panels.
Stephen will be at Thriving Sustainably all day, parking his milk float outside the Community Centre and demonstrating his energy wizardry.
In this occasional blog I will be passing on information about the organisation of the event as well as give some background to the themes which the day is about. The event will be one (so far fairly rare) opportunity for us to tackle these issues from the ground up as a community, mainly through sharing and learning together. We will have a chance to be exposed to some of the foremost thinkers and doers in the field of climate change, peak oil and the future of our planet. Let's make good use of their contributions and offerings. p>
