Film “We Feed The World”

Documentary by Erwin Wagenhofer (to be shown 10.30 am on Oct. 17 - 90mins)

The documentary “We feed the World“ by Austrian filmmaker Erwin Wagenhofer draws attention to profound problems in the global food production industry and alerts us to the consequences of our consumer choices. Amongst other examples, he shows vast greenhouse landscapes in Spain, the industrial processing of chickens from hatching to abattoir, industrial fishing within the EU and doubtful practices in a seed company in Romania. He also conducts a rather revealing interview with the CEO of Nestlé [one of the biggest global companies involved in all aspects of food production), Peter Brabeck.

This is what it says in wikipedia:
In 2005 Wagenhofer directed the long documentary We Feed the World, produced by Allegro Film. It is about industrialization of food production and shows international agricultural politics from a critical viewpoint, especially with regards to the role of the EU. The film was seen by more than 800,000 people in Europe. It was shown at numerous festivals and won several prizes. In October 2008 his next documentary Let’s Make Money was released in Germany and Austria. It is about money in a global financial system and unequal distribution of wealth.

Blog - Overview

In this occasional blog I will be passing on information about the organisation of the event as well as give some background to the themes which the day is about. The event will be one (so far fairly rare) opportunity for us to tackle these issues from the ground up as a community, mainly through sharing and learning together. We will have a chance to be exposed to some of the foremost thinkers and doers in the field of climate change, peak oil and the future of our planet. Let's make good use of their contributions and offerings.
