Are you interested in growing your own food ? Do you live in or near West Oxford ?
Are you on a waiting list for an allotment ?
There is an unused allotment site in West Oxford, and we need about 20 people with sincere interest to make it worth fighting for, to re-establish it again. Throughout Oxford, and the country as a whole, the allotment situation has changed drastically from about 10 years ago, when many plots were unused. Now waiting lists are over-subscribed everywhere, and the council actually have a legal duty to provide land for growing food, if the demand is there.
Do let me know if you live locally and are interested ....
And do please spread the word to others who may be potentially interested locally !
One idea is that we could make this more than an ‘ordinary’ allotment site, but a beacon project for communal local food production.
That would involve a different approach to the site and a more comprehensive design (maybe involving Phil Pritchard who runs permaculture training courses ??).
So do let me know specifically if you are interested in such a community project to grow food together (I have always thought that gardening is a communal activity - some of the obvious reasons are: shared expertise and tools, shared seeds and seed-buying(much is otherwise wasted), rotas for holidays etc). So allotment sites with individual plots never quite made sense to me ...
